The Watermark at East Hill

In 2007, The Freshwater Group, in partnership with Fremont Capital Group and Watermark Retirement Communities, acquired East Hill Woods, an under-performing 55-acre continuing care retirement community perched atop a forested hill with stunning views of historic Southbury and the Pomperaug Valley.

The Freshwater team has been strategically repositioning East Hill Woods in the market. It launched an aggressive public relations campaign announcing its new beginnings as “The Watermark at East Hill,” and on-site training of employees has instilled Watermark’s culture of wellness, individuality and self-expression. A $15M capital improvement operation is underway.

Housing renovations have included a thorough remodel of independent-living and assisted-living apartments. A freestanding home for up to 14 people has also been constructed, part of The Freshwater Group’s groundbreaking memory care program based on the traditional family household. Plans call for independent-living cottages to be built around the perimeter of the community; they will be carefully blended into the forested site with as little impact as possible.

There are numerous walking trails on the grounds, as well as a new state-of-the-art fitness center with an indoor pool, spa and salon. Two new dining venues, The Mark and The W Room, provide greater dining choices. Residents will find a full continuum of care on campus, including nursing care and rehabilitation at the health center. A wide array of personal services is available and residents may select from a variety of activities, classes, outings, and events.

The Freshwater Group is confident that its re-branding campaign, property enhancements, and infusion of a creative culture have resulted in a place that inspires residents and associates to achieve their potential. The firm’s continuing efforts at East Hill will make it ever more attractive to future residents, and result in maximized occupancy and profitability to investors.
