The Watermark at San Ramon

The Watermark at San Ramon, a new development project from Watermark Retirement Communities and Kayne Anderson, will be a boutique senior living community offering Assisted Living and Memory Care to the East Bay area. Its nearly 80 residences will range from studios to two-bedroom apartments, some featuring kitchenettes with granite countertops and private patios. The Watermark will be an integrative care community where residents will benefit from several diverse partnerships with local health and wellness professionals, including those from the nearby hospital.

Taking architectural and design inspiration from the rich traditions of the American Craftsman movement, The Watermark will be notable for stylish comfort and robust amenities. Low-pitched roof lines settle the building gracefully into its setting. The architectural lobby space carries through with art and craft details that include exposed rafters, hand-painted accent tiles in select areas, plenty of comfortable and casual seating, a two story fireplace and a graceful staircase that takes visitors to an open arcade above the lobby. Similar styling carries through to other common areas that include a library, theater and beauty salon. Throughout, the community offers plentiful of green spaces, including vegetable and herb gardens. Patios, porches and large windows capture the beauty of the surrounding rolling hills, promoting comfortable indoor and outdoor living.

A cornerstone to enhancing the healthy and restorative lifestyle of residents at The Watermark is world-class cuisine and delightful dining venues. A casual open café space is integrated into the lobby, with banquette and bistro seating, where residents and guests might gather to enjoy fresh brasserie fare that includes soups, salads, starters, sandwiches, in addition to light lunch and dinner entrées as they take in the lively vibe of the reception area. Another open dining room on the second floor has large windows that afford views of the surrounding hills. The Memory Care dining room – with an open design to welcome family and friends to communal meals – looks onto a garden area. Menus will be created by the community’s chef, using fresh local ingredients when available (some from the community gardens), with an emphasis on healthy and tasty selections. Some selections will be based on the recipes of Rebecca Katz of Healing Kitchens, based in the San Francisco Bay area.

Residents will engage in maintaining their strength and resiliency through an ample array of services and programs. At The Watermark, a fully-equipped fitness center will offer classes as well as private sessions. A wellness clinic will offer wellness checks, massage, acupuncture and other integrative therapies. Residents can also visit medical and wellness specialists in private treatment rooms. Crucial partnerships with local health care professionals will enhance resident well-being. A generous schedule of classes, casual activities and outings is based in a company-wide program called Watermark University that is committed to promoting life-long learning and whole-person well-being.

The Watermark at San Ramon, a $36M project, will open in Winter 2019.
